In this delightful day retreat, you will create a vintage inspired fabric journal with the option to also uncover the beautiful art of free motion embroidery. We will embark on a journey, beginning with the creation of our book structure including decorative stitching and a variety of fabrics and image transfer. You will have the option to learn some elements of Free-Motion Embroidery too but you can create a beautiful journal without this element if free motion isn't for you.
Students will need to bring their own Sewing Machine for free motion embroidery. You do not need a fancy sewing machine, we will only be using straight and zigzag stitches but please insure your machine is in good working order and that you have a darning foot and the ability to drop the feed dogs. I advise having spare needles and I like to use machine embroifery needles by Schmetz .
Country House Craft Studio takes great pride in delivering a friendly and relaxed high-quality experience. You will leave with wonderful memories and new crafty friends.
We limit spaces to between 5-10 people for day retreats which allows us to deliver a personalised experience where everyone gets the tutoring and guidance they require.

Fabric Journal making Day Retreat. 12th September 2026
The Day Retreat will be held on 12th September 2026 and will be packed full of fun and creative friendships.
The retreat will be held at Country House Craft Studio, Hurds Hill, Langport, Somerset, TA10 0ND.
The day will run from 10am-5pm with lunch and refreshment breaks.
Your package will include Tuition, lunch, refreshments all required materials, use of necessary tools in addition to your own sewing machine. Please check with Janie before booking if you have any quires about your machine's suitability, or if you need to borrow a machine. You do not have to include free motion embroidery, it is your choice.
Exclusive use of the Country House is included in the price.
The house has an eclectic feel that will get your imagination flowing.
The retreat has disabled access, if you require any specific support, please inform us before booking.
Your booking is secured with deposit or full payment, refunds can not be guaranteed unless Janie's Originals or Hurds Hill need to cancel the event for unforeseen circumstances. If you pay a deposit full payment will be requested via invoice to be cleared by August 29th.
